As part of the “Southland Gives Back” initiative, the Southland Conference will profile a community service outing from each of our 13 member institutions each weekday from Dec. 6 to 22. Athletes from all 16 sports were involved to help donate more than 250 items. “The Toy Drive collects and distributes toys as gifts to needy children in the community during the Christmas season,” said SAAC’s Coordinator Alex Haley. “The goal is to get full participation from the administrative staff, athletes, coaches and fans. The community has been supportive of our McNeese family over the years and this is our opportunity to give back.” Toy collections were placed at all home athletic events beginning in November. The Pokes partnered with A.A. Nelson Elementary School students, who were asked to bring a toy for the campaign. LAKE CHARLES, La. – In what has become one of the biggest traditions over the last few years, the McNeese Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) once again took part in the Southland Conference’s “Southland Gives Back” initiative to provide holiday cheer to those in the surrounding Lake Area. McNeese athletes from various sports spent the last month and a half collecting toys for its annual Toy Drive by promoting the event across the community through social media efforts as well as different toy drives at athletic events on campus.
