India go second on ICC ODI ranking, Virat Kohli retains top spot among batsmen

However, they bounced back strongly and defeated the No.1 ranked ODI team South Africa by eight wickets to reach the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy.In the semi-final against Bangladesh, India hardly broke a sweat and thrashed Bangladesh by nine wickets.Earlier in the year, India had won the five-match ODI series against New Zealand 3-2 and defeated England 2-1 in the three-match series.Meanwhile, Virat Kohli consistent display in the ongoing Champions Trophy helped him stay on top of the rankings for bastmen.advertisementAfter scoring an 81 not out against Pakistan in the tournament opener, Kohli got out on a rare duck in the match against Sri Lanka.The Indian captain came back with renewed vigour against South Africa hitting 76 not out at a strike rate of 75.25.
