We were poor in all departments, my own performance bad: Sarfraz

first_imgPakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed was critical of his team’s performance after they were knocked out of Asia Cup 2018 by Bangladesh on Wednesday.Pakistan failed to click with either the bat or ball as Bangladesh pulled off a 37-run win in Abu Dhabi to set up a final against India on Friday at the Dubai International Stadium. The Sarfraz-led side firstly let Bangladesh off the hook after they were down and out and then failed to reach the target despite having one wicket in hand to bow out of the tournament in sorry fashion.Much of Pakistan’s woes on the night could be attributed to Sarfraz’s captaincy as he decided to his foot off the peddle, when Bangladesh were tottering at 3/12 from 4.2 overs. Sarfraz decided to take off Junaid Khan from the attack, who took two quick wickets and was breathing fire. Following that, Bangladesh slowly and steadily got back into the match thanks to a great partnership between Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun.Pakistan vs Bangladesh: Match report | HighlightsThe pair put on 144 runs together for the fourth wicket and bailed Bangladesh out of trouble. Riding on Mushfiqur’s 99 and Mithun’s 60, the Bangla Tigers posted a decent total of 239 from 48.4 overs.Chasing that, Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals. Barring Imam-ul-Haq, who was the only batsman, who got in and looked at ease, none of the Pakistani players had a good outing with the bat.And once Imam fell for 83 in the 41st over, there was no coming back from it. Bangladesh tightened their grip on the match with every passing over and finally won the match by 37 runs to move into the final.advertisementSpeaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Pakistan captain Sarfraz was extremely disappointed with the team and his personal performance.”We are obviously not feeling good. As a team we have not done well. Our performance has been very poor. As a player, I have done really badly too. I should have done better. We were poor in every facet of the game. There were lot of batting collapses for us in the tournament,” said a disappointed Sarfraz. He also rued the lack of runs from Fakhar Zaman, who struggled throughout the tournament to get some runs.”Fakhar is our main batsman, he failed to perform in this tournament and Shadab was hit by injury too. We have to play well to beat good teams. Our batting was the main reason for our defeat in this tournament,” Sarfraz said.He signed off by praising Shaheen Afridi, who impressed immensely in the three matches he played against Afghanistan, India and Bangladesh.”Shaheen Afridi is a talented youngster, we have given him opportunities to showcase his talent and he has done well too.”last_img
