PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds Sells 10 Million Copies

first_img It’s safe to say that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is 2017’s big sleeper hit. Since its debut as an Early Access game on Steam in March, the game has amassed a huge following. Today, developer Bluehole has announced that its open-world survival title has sold an astounding 10 million copies. Keep in mind that the game hasn’t even officially been released yet.“It is amazing and gratifying to see the love and support the passionate fans have shown to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds,” said Chang Han Kim, Bluehole VP and executive producer (via gamesindustry.biz). “Watching the thrilling moments during the PUBG Invitational with the great feedback from viewers is a realization of the continuing popularity of PUBG and our team is working diligently to bring a solid gameplay experience for full launch on the PC and Xbox One Game Preview versions later this year.”10 MILLION SOLD! Never did I think we would reach such a number! Thank you all for your continuing support of the @PUBATTLEGROUNDS team <3— PLAYERUNKNOWN (@PLAYERUNKNOWN) September 5, 2017Gamers aren’t just buying PUBG either. It managed to have the most concurrent players on Steam last month. Thanks to the PUBG invitational tournament at this year’s Gamescom event, the title saw more than 970,000 users online. This helped it briefly top Valve’s DotA2.PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is undeniably a monster hit, but will it enjoy the same success on Xbox One that it currently does on PC? The Xbox One has a much smaller install base than PC so its doubtful PUBG will reach 10 million sales on that platform. However, even if it only sells half that number on Microsoft’s console it would still be a great accomplishment. Given the Xbox One’s spare exclusive offerings this Fall, PUBG could help it stay competitive with PS4 and Switch during the holidays. Expect PUBG‘s sales numbers to climb even higher before the year is over.Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey.
