We’ve got an explainer right here in case you’re lost but really it seems like everyone these days is unapologetically sharing their love of the action anime to end all action anime. Al Roker talked about Goku at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. That Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie made like actual money at the American box office. And even I, who really can’t wait for people to stop talking about Dragon Ball so much, will happily admit that the gorgeous exciting fighting game Dragon Ball FighterZ was absolutely one of the best video games of 2018.So try to be shocked that there’s a lot more Dragon Ball content coming your way this year. To start, Bandai Namco revealed the first teaser for its new Dragon Ball Game Project Z trailer, coming this year to PC, PS4, and Xbox One from developer CyberConnect2.This trailer doesn’t explain everything, which makes sense considering the name doesn’t even seem final yet, but there are a bunch of interesting takeaways. Bandai Namco describes the game as an action RPG, and Dragon Ball games have flirted with genres other than fighting before. There have been handheld Dragon Ball RPGs and the Xenoverse series includes role-playing elements as well. But the scope of the environments teased here make us wonder if this will be a full-on open-world adventure in the Dragon Ball universe? Skyrim with Goku? Dragonballborn? It would certainly make the game seem more exciting if it’s plot is just summarizing the events of Dragon Ball Z again. Regardless of the franchise, a huge action RPG with anime fighting mechanics would be fun to try, too.Still, even if this new Dragon Ball game winds up bad, at least Dragon Ball FighterZ is still great. And it’s only going to get better in 2019 as we now know some of the new characters arriving in the Season 2 battle pass.Dragon Ball FighterZ has taken some flack for its paltry amount of female characters. But Videl, daughter of Mr. Satan and daughter-in-law of Goku, is coming as DLC. She fights with her husband Gohan in his Great Saiyaman disguise. Videl releases at the end of January alongside Jiren, a fan-favorite buff grey space alien and antagonist of a later Dragon Ball Super arc. Four more characters will be released after that including Gogeta and Base Broly.I can’t wait to watch SonicFox beat everyone up with Hercule’s daughter.
